Hailing from Versailles, France, Air is an electronic duo made up of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. They released the album Le Voyage dans la Lune (“A Trip to the Moon”) earlier this year.

Le Voyage dans la Lune certainly does take the listener on a trip to the moon. The track “Seven Stars,” counts down and launches you out of Earth’s atmosphere and into an other-worldly state of mind. My favorite track on the album is “Sonic Armada.” Its cool beats, jamming baseline, and psychedelic synth noises will have you anti-gravity grooving. “Who am I now?” is an eerie glimpse at the dark side of the moon and psyche. C’est très bizarre to say the least. One of the few tracks with lyrics, the female French vocals overlaying ambient, quixotic tones would leave anyone questioning their personal identities and sanity. “Cosmic Trip,” is not only an accurate description of the track, but a perfect summation of the album as a whole.
This album earns 4 stars. It absolutely consumed me and I loved every second of it. The concept is executed flawlessly, without any cosmic question. The tracks are diverse without any sense of discontinuity and every track is interesting and draws you in. Its on-point fluidity can be partially attributed to the occasion short intermission tracks that bridge the songs perfectly. Air couldn’t have captured the feeling and atmosphere of outer space any better. If you’ve ever wanted to visit the moon, this album will take you there.
